Annie Malone's Transitional Living Program
The transitional living program for the Group Home and Scattered Site participants at Annie Malone Children & Family Service Center will be to assist young people in developing self-sufficiency to achieve independent living. More specifically the program is committed to enhancing the development of functional independent living skills and helping youth build the skills needed to identify community resources that will assist them in becoming productive and successful adults. Through a variety of skill building exercises, we will provide both educational and experiential opportunities for youth to address behaviors which include academic under achievement, conflict with authority and peers, poor impulse control, aggressive behavior, disrespect for property, poor work ethics, sexual promiscuity, and limited problem solving skills. The program will:
- Assist in developing effective oral and written communication skills
- Expose youth to available community resources
- Increase effective decision making and problem solving skills
- Increase self worth, self competence, self acceptance
- Aid in the development of job skills and retention
- Address the educational needs of youth (i.e. GED programs, high school graduation requirements, exploring post secondary educational opportunities and funding options, and special education programs when applicable).
- Improve work and study habits
- Provide career guidance and education (i.e. addressing interview techniques, proper dress, resume development and job search).
- Improve daily living skills which includes time management hygiene, self care, healthcare, house keeping and meal planning
- Assist with the development of personal support systems
- Assist in the development of skills necessary in locating and maintaining appropriate housing through research, application processes, financial and renter obligations
- Provide an opportunity for social development and recreational activities
